Having passions as everyone does, one of my favorite passions is my grandchildren. When my oldest five [we have seven total] grandchildren would come over to visit; my husband and I would make sure we did something fun and memorable, so they will have good memories when their older. My husband has taught them how to fish. These days we don’t get to see them too often, however we have been blessed to spend a lot of time with our grandson Devin [from our youngest daughter Tanya]. When the older ones would come over for a visit we would have sleep overs, staying up late watching movies and eating lots of popcorn. With all of them shroud in their pajama’s we would turn on a movie, everyone was hunkered down on the living room floor with pillows; favorite blankets, and stuffed whatever, getting to stay up late because they were at grandma’s and grandpa’s. My youngest granddaughter Precious has spent many a night with D.J. and because there is an age difference she is every bit the big sister role model helping Devin with all her worldly knowledge. They are growing up so quickly, but I am pleased to report they all love math. They certainly don’t take after me.
During the day the kids and I would do things like baking cookies and then decorating them. We also did crafts, and lots of coloring and going to the park. Devin and his mother lived with us from the time he was born. He was a premature baby, which meant a lot of adjustments for everyone. We helped as much as we could with his care. As D.J. [that’s what I call him] gets older he and his papa, get ever closer. If you were to ask Devin, who his best friend in the whole wide world is, he would say papa. Devin is sometimes a hard one to keep entertained. My husband and I are always trying new things with him. Last summer we took him to the zoo, knowing he would finally be able to appreciate seeing all the different animals, in something resembling their natural habitat. I’ll admit it was hard at times keeping up with Devin. I discovered a web site www. kidsblog.nationalgeographic.com/little kids/ . That I couldn’t wait to show Devin. He’s coming over to spend the night this weekend and we’ve already given him a preview of some of the activities we’re planning on doing. I found a great website for kids. Devin played some different games with papa. After this weekend I know I’ll be tired and probably in need of a nap, but I wouldn’t trade the experience for anything ever.
